How does it work and what am I paying for?
Mold inspections begin with a professional inspection of your property for areas that show current mold sustaining moisture levels as mold must have moisture to grow.
From leaks in a roof or around windows and plumbing fixtures to basements, crawlspaces and penetrations in the building envelope a thorough inspection is required to locate and then identify mold.
Toxic mold in attic
Aspergillus is found
in approximately 58 %
of buildings and is toxic
Stachybotrys
or Black Mold
is toxic and can be found
in homes and commercial buildings
grows quickly and can spread by contact and through ventilation systems.
The inspection for mold is the first critical step and is usually followed by the analysis portion of the investigation to determine the type or types of mold present.
Since not all molds are toxic or pathogenic it is essential to know what type or species is growing.
This is done by taking samples using a contact collection method or by air quality sampling.
Contact sampling is the quickest and easiest way to test but may not identify all molds that are present. The number of samples taken and turn around time for the report can add to the costs involved.
Air quality testing is the most accurate form of testing a large area to determine the mold levels and types of mold in a home or other building. Depending on the scope of the test requested and turn around time desired, the cost is moderate to high. Air quality has the best success in determining the presence of other allergens besides mold.
